Benefits of Breastfeeding

Human milk is the best natural food for babies. According to the World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) recommendation, babies should be breastfed exclusively in the first six months and continue to have human milk together with solid food in their diet until two years old or above.

Benefits to Babies
  • Human milk’s composition covers a wide range of nutrients. They will adjust accordingly to meet babies’ needs at different developmental stages.

  • Digestive enzymes in human milk facilitate babies to digest and absorb high-quality nutrients.
  • Human milk contains large amounts of antibodies and living cells. Exclusive breastfeeding develops babies gut which helps to defend bacteria and allergens.
Benefits to Mothers
  • Helps contraction of uterus and reduces postpartum bleeding or anaemia
  • Helps to lower body weight gained during pregnancy
  • Reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancers
  • Allows intimate contact that promotes mother-baby bonding
